New York Street Photography of Dogs in The East Village (mostly) Before Gentrification

phoDOGraphy.com Pet Portraits

My neighborhood (the East Village/Alphabet City) would be unrecognizable to anyone who left in 1985. Photos from the dawn of phoDOGraphy reveal a much darker place, before there were restaurants and grocery stores with whole wheat bread.

The neighborhood was dicey enough that I was reluctant to walk around with a camera much, but couldn’t resist getting some street photography of dogs now and then.

The gallery below is all black-and-white street photography of New York dogs from 1985-1999, most of them taken in the East Village, Lower East Side, and Alphabet City.

While I shoot in color now, beautiful black-and-white prints are always available. Book your own pet portraits now.
